3rd-Graders "Dig Into" Science via Owl Pellets

Owl 2Students in Ms. Dillinder’s class explored the real food chain, as part of their Taxonomy Unit in our CKLA curriculum, when students from UCCS, under the guidance of UCCS Professor (and MSES Mom) Lissanna Follari, helped them dissect owl pellets. Owls’ droppings still contain the bones, beaks, claws, fur, etc., of their prey, so are a fascinating way to explore what owls eat and digest. Students charted bones from the species they discovered. And we had not one squeamish scientist once the gloves were on and the fascination started in!
