Glitter Bottle is Fun Way to Envision Mindfulness

Mindfulness classes are enjoying Glitter Bottles as a fun, visual way to be aware of the activity in our brains. The idea is that, when shaken up, the swirling glitter represents the many thoughts in our brains. As we sit calmly and watch the glitter settle, our own thoughts settle and we begin to feel calm within ourselves. As the swirling within the bottle calms, it provides the visual many of us need to cement this concept. Below is the ‘recipe’ for making a Glitter Bottle. Have fun with your child creating one!
Glitter Bottle
• 1 Voss Water Bottle (King Soopers in the bottled water section, 11 or 12 oz. size.)
• Fill it 2/3 of the way with hot (not boiling) water.
• Add 2 tablespoons of clear Elmer's glue and shake well.
• Add as much fine glitter as you'd like (you can always add more). Colors can vary by you and your child’s choice!
• Fill the bottle almost to the top with more hot water and shake.
• The glitter might clump at first, but the clumps will soon dissolve.
• If you want a color, put one drop of food coloring in - I've used blue and also green in another bottle, but you can use any color you like. (more than one drop and it gets too dark to really see the glitter).
