MSES Opens Our Own “Little Manitou”

MSES Opens Our Own “Little Manitou” in Phase 1 of Playground Renovation; A Big Dragon is Next!
Posted on 08/26/2019
DragonOur own “Little Manitou” playground installation debuted Friday as eager young Mustangs ran out at recess time to explore and play on the new western town storefront structure that directly reflects our own version of Manitou Avenue. The structure features two levels of play zones, two slides, a climbing wall and corkscrew bar, multiple themed playrooms, a mini piano and bongo drums, and other play pieces. While nothing can replace the grand wooden structure that served our kids the past 28 years, it had survived beyond the point where it was fully safe for our precious children. As we continue developing our grand new vision for the playground, we are making plans with local artist Steve Wood and Concrete Couch to invite our students and parents/ guardians to a community build of a giant used-tire dragon in the space between the swings and the new structure. The dragon installation and several other planned future art/play structures were designed in the community charettes this past year. Our stalwart and always supportive Parent Action Committee will be raising funds for the next phases of the playground upgrade over the course of the year with their events like Maniboo and the Spring Fun Run.
