Special Guest Enhances Kindergarten ‘Senses’ Unit

This past week, as part of their Five Senses CKLA Unit, Kindergarten students listened to biographies about Ray Charles and Helen Keller, two remarkable people who overcame disabilities from one or more senses not fully functioning. Then we had a guest visitor named Mr. Bruce McAlexander visit us for an informational question and answer time.  Mr. McAlexander, who is blind, is the father of Kindergarten teacher Missi Thomson! It was great for the students to hear about how Mr. McAlexander has adapted to life since he lost his sense of sight. He taught us about using a cane to help him feel objects around him and even let us feel a Braille book. It was a wonderful way to allow the kids to connect their new learning about our senses to the real world!
