Ms. Knezha's 5th Grade

This is Creek Week! We will be caring for our watershed as we clean up on Friday!

Snacks--Parents--please do not allow your student to pack candy or soda as a snack for school. As the Halloween season approaches, candy is everywhere, and is not appropriate for students for snack or with lunch. A good rule of thumb is that if sugar is in the first three ingredients, it is probably not good brain food! If you haven't already, please send in a reusable water bottle as well to be filled with water only. Students are allowed and encouraged to refill bottles at school. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Curriculum Notes:

Math--Chapter 2 Whole Number Multiplication and Division--Division with two digit divisors and order of operations will be covered. Firm mastery of multiplication and division facts is required for success with this unit.

CKLA--Early American Civilizations. Students are reading non-fiction text to learn about the Maya, Inca and Aztec peoples. If your family has visited any of the sites, we would love to have you share the photos.

Novels--Students continue the study of the book Wonder.

Social Studies--Maya, Inca and Aztec civilization extensions and projects.

Science--Creek Week Project presentations.

Creek Week Clean Up--10/5
Volunteers are needed to walk with the students down the Creek Trail to the Manitou Pool and back. Please let me know if you are willing and able to make this trek. It is about 2.5 miles round trip. It takes us about 40 minutes to walk and clean on the way there and then a little less on the way back. Leaving school at 1:00 . Email me if you can attend.

Camp note:
Camp is considered to be regular school days for kids being held offsite. All students are expected to attend. If your family is having difficulty paying the camp fee, please contact me and we will figure out a way that will work for your family. YMCA scholarships are available for those in need. If you are having trouble getting things like a sleeping bag or flashlight, please let me know as well as we keep some extras on hand. We want ALL students to attend, enjoy and fully experience camp.

Thank you for sharing your children with me!
